Baseball Game Preview: Santa Teresa Saints vs. Pioneer Mustangs

The Santa Teresa Saints will head out on the road to challenge the Pioneer Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Teresa will be strutting in after a victory while Pioneer will be coming in after a defeat.

Santa Teresa is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over Milpitas on Monday. The Saints not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18, 2024.

Peter Melendez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Jordan Hsieh and Isaiah Rivera did most of the damage at the plate: Hsieh scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Rivera scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs Rivera has posted since back in March.

Meanwhile, Pioneer didn't have quite enough to beat King's Academy on Saturday and fell 3-1. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Santa Teresa's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pioneer, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Santa Teresa couldn't quite finish off Pioneer when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
