Basketball Recap: Gray Collegiate Academy Takes a Loss

Gray Collegiate Academy suffered their closest loss since November 24, 2023 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Westwood Redhawks by a score of 51-49. The War Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Redhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2015.

Despite the loss, Gray Collegiate Academy still got an impressive performance from Lamont (Lj) Britt, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Britt a new career-high. Chase Starkey was another key player, putting up eight points.

Westwood was led to victory by Jayden Crews and Derrick Brown. Crews went 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds, while Brown posted nine points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daytron Cockfield, who had eight points and six rebounds.

Gray Collegiate Academy now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Westwood, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Gray Collegiate Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 68-32 win against Midland Valley on the 13th. As for Westwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 68-38 victory against White Knoll on the 10th.
