Softball Game Preview: Avery County Vikings vs. Mountain Heritage Cougars

For the second straight game, Avery County will face off against Mountain Heritage. The Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Avery County has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Avery County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Mountain Heritage on Tuesday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 12-2.

For Mountain Heritage's part, Nevaeh Buchanan was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Buchanan was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Worley, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (five). Madi Dillinger was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Avery County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Mountain Heritage, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-9.
