Basketball Recap: Fort Morgan Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Lauryn Zwetzig and Shaelynn Ramirez

Fort Morgan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-39 heartbreaker at the hands of the Weld Central Rebels. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rebels earlier this season, when they won 41-34.

Shaelynn Ramirez and Lauryn Zwetzig certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Ramirez went 8-for-12 from beyond the arc to rack up 24 points and five boards, while Zwetzig posted nine points and five rebounds. Ava Taylor was another key player, putting up no points along with six boards and five blocks.

Weld Central found their leader in sophomore Isabel Weisenborn, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Weisenborn also set a new season-high mark in steals with five. Another player making a difference was Riley Phelps, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Fort Morgan's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Weld Central, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 5-13.

Fort Morgan has already played their next matchup, a 34-20 defeat against Valley on the 14th. As for Weld Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-31 loss against Eaton on the 14th.
