Football Recap: Monta Vista Starts Season with Victory on the Road + How To Watch

Monta Vista had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They really took it to the Hill Falcons for the full four quarters, racking up a 34-6 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Matadors sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row dating back to last season.

Graham Ischo had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 203 yards and one score while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. Those 203 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Chaahoub, who rushed for 139 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Monta Vista was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 496 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Monta Vista's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kingston Jourdan, Krish Kotecha, and Elijah Daniher, who each picked up one sack apiece. Kotecha got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Coming up, Monta Vista will head out to face off against James Lick at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hill, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gunn at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
