Softball Game Preview: Coalinga Horned Toads vs. Firebaugh Eagles

For the second straight game, Coalinga will face off against Firebaugh. The Horned Toads will face off against the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Coalinga is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Coalinga took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Firebaugh an 18-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Horned Toads considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Brooklyn Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Coalinga got a massive performance out of Bella Delgado, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Delgado has posted since back in March. Lily Brewer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Coalinga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Coalinga pushed their record up to 14-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Firebaugh, they are on a 17-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.
