Softball Recap: Canyon Finds Home Field Redemption Against Verdugo Hills

There's no place like home for Canyon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They never let the Verdugo Hills Dons get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cowboys as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Not much got past Jessica Carr, who gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Verdugo Hills off the board. That's the most strikeouts Carr has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Karina Montero, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Maci Dunagan, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Canyon's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Verdugo Hills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canyon will host Golden Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Verdugo Hills, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Cleveland at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Cleveland has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.43 runs per game on average), something Verdugo Hills will no doubt try to take advantage of.
