Rio Rancho is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Cibola, who was ranked fifth at the time (Rio Rancho was ranked second). Rio Rancho came out on top against Cibola by a score of 6-2 on Saturday.

Rio Rancho pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for La Cueva, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.

Everything went La Cueva's way against Rio Rancho when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as La Cueva made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Cueva since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
