Basketball Recap: Wakpala Takes a Loss

Wakpala was the 76-39 winner over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Wakpala Sioux lost 88-64 to the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves on Saturday. The Sioux have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leading Cheyenne-Eagle Butte to victory were Suni Bowman and Dakotta Longbrake. Bowman dropped a double-double with 34 points and 11 boards, while Longbrake dropped a triple-double with 25 points, 11 assists, and ten steals. Longbrake has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tommi Chasing Hawk, who posted four points in addition to ten rebounds, eight assists, and eight steals.

Wakpala's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-10.

Looking ahead, Wakpala will venture away from home to challenge McLaughlin at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, they will welcome Pine Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
