Football Recap: Elkhart Takes a Loss

Elkhart extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They were beaten by the Troup Tigers 47-2. While losing is never fun, the Elks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 971st, while the Tigers are ranked 288th).

Callyn Franklin threw for 73 yards on ten of 20 attempts. Javon Smith was his top target, picking up 34 receiving yards.

As for Troup, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Considering they have won four games by more than 35 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brett Wells was his usual excellent self, rushing for 156 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries, while also picking up 42 receiving yards. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Josh Childress, who threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes.

Coming up, Elkhart will take on Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Elks will be up against the Bison's rather soft defense (which has allowed 41.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Troup, they will square off against Winona at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 35.67 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
