Basketball Recap: Serenity Pennington and Kendyl Bottomley Secure Win for Connersville

After losing to Charlestown the last time they met, Connersville decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Connersville Spartans managed a 50-46 victory over the Charlestown Pirates on Saturday.

Connersville was led to victory by Kendyl Bottomley and Serenity Pennington. Bottomley went 7 of 8 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds, while Pennington went 5 of 6 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie McHenry, who posted six points.

Connersville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Connersville has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Charlestown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Connersville will challenge Greenfield-Central at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Greenfield-Central will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Connersville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Charlestown, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Madison at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
