Baseball Recap: Springfield Gets the Win

Springfield proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 11) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pine Raiders, sneaking past 4-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Springfield let Brock Cothern and Colt Lirette run wild. Cothern scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Lirette scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, Cothern posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Will Sanders, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Pine, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Springfield beat the Raiders by a score of 8-5 on Thursday.
