League recap: Scottsdale Preparatory Academy tops Mogollon to extend winning streak

VI Section III (8 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy extended the longest winning streak in VI Section III (8 Man) this week by beating Mogollon, 64-52. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Spartans.

Gila Bend suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 54-18 loss to Gila Bend. The Gila Monsters had been ranked 24th, but fell to 26 following the defeat.

Matt Munsil was the best wideout in the league this week as Scottsdale Preparatory Academy topped the Mustangs. Munsil racked up 12 receptions for 250 yards. Ethan Wright helped Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 157 yards.

Matthew Martinez threw for 441 yards and eight touchdowns. He went 20-35 with one interceptions.

Nick Smith provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Will Munsil's team defeated Mogollon. He completed 26 passes for 488 yards and seven touchdowns and also ran for 31 yards.

DAVID EGBO was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 102 yards as Chandler Prep topped Tim Slade's team. Teammate Adam Bennett added to the ground attack by rushing for 85 yards.

Nathan Camacho made the biggest impact on defense this week as Rancho Solano Prep beat Veritas Prep. The 6-foot-0 junior forced one fumble and racked up three sacks.

5-foot-9 quarterback Martinez of Rancho Solano Prep is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1356. He has also thrown 22 touchdowns. On the ground, Valley Lutheran's Ketah Watson has rushed for 764 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Munsil. The Scottsdale Preparatory Academy star has 40 catches for 806 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Chandler Prep and Scottsdale Preparatory Academy. Duncan Aepli's team enters the contest ranked 23rd in the state, while the Spartans ranks third.
