Softball Recap: Merrill Triumphs

Merrill came out on top against Antigo on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Bluejays took their game against the Red Robins 7-3. This was a revenge game for the Bluejays: when they faced off against the Red Robins back in April, they had to take a 8-7 defeat.

Mackenzie Herdt made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacey Lyon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Barker, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Merrill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Antigo only managed five.

Merrill's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Antigo, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Coming up, Merrill will square off against Hayward at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Antigo, they will face off against Shawano Community at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
