Basketball Recap: Choctaw County Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Choctaw County faced off against Marengo on Friday. The Choctaw County Tigers took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marengo Panthers. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Choctaw County still got an impressive performance from Jarrod Chaney, who posted 14 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaterrion Curtis, who put up eight points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marengo to victory, but perhaps none more so than DeVontae Tucker, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. Tucker has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Omar Autery, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Choctaw County and nudges their season record down to 4-8. As for Marengo, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

While Choctaw County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
