Softball Game Preview: Elysian Fields Yellowjackets vs. Waskom Wildcats

For the second straight game, Elysian Fields will face off against Waskom. The Yellowjackets will host the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Elysian Fields has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Tuesday, Elysian Fields needed a bit of extra time to put away Waskom. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 16-11. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Yellowjackets as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Layla Adkins made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and eight unearned) runs off four hits. Adkins was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julie Lowery, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Madi Owens was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Elysian Fields was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waskom only posted a batting average of .233.

Elysian Fields picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-19. As for Waskom, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Waskom's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Elysian Fields hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336.
