Baseball Recap: Freeburg Comes Up Short

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Freeburg's offense. They fell just short of the Roxana Shells by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Midgets have lost by exactly two runs.

Gabe Lueth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has become a key player for Freeburg: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Freeburg saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Biehl, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

This is the second loss in a row for Freeburg and nudges their season record down to 11-10. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only two runs. As for Roxana, their victory bumped their record up to 17-7-1.

Looking ahead, Freeburg will be playing at home against Collinsville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Kahoks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Midgets surely won't give up without a fight. Roxana will be paying especially close attention to Freeburg's game: after Freeburg faces off against Collinsville, they'll take on Roxana again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
