Preview: Plainview Pirates vs. Elkhorn Valley Falcons
Two dominant signal callers in Gage Walton and Mason Nitz are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Plainview Pirates''s homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Elkhorn Valley Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard on Friday.
Last Thursday, Plainview earned a 49-40 victory over Hartington-Newcastle.
Plainview's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Spencer Hille, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 12 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Walton, who rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Elkhorn Valley put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past Riverside, posting a 50-20 victory at home.
Mavrick Hagemann went supernova for Elkhorn Valley, rushing for 217 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Nitz was another key contributor, throwing for 161 yards and three touchdowns.
Plainview's victory was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 North Central and 0-8 Wakefield (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.1% over those games). As for Elkhorn Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Plainview strolled past Elkhorn Valley when the teams last played two weeks ago by a score of 27-12. Does Plainview have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elkhorn Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
