Recap: Wakulla War Eagles vs. Taylor County Bulldogs
The Wakulla War Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 42-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Taylor County. The match was a 16-16 toss-up at halftime, but Wakulla was outscored by Taylor County in the second.
Several War Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kyendra Thomas, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That was a full 39.5% of Wakulla's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Amariyah Donaldson, who scored six points along with three blocks.
Taylor County found their leader in underclassman Irene Meler, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Meler has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of LeeAsia Johnson, who scored ten points.
Wakulla bumped their record down to 2-8 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.2 points per game. As for Taylor County, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wakulla will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Jefferson County at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Jefferson County's defense has only allowed 28.7 points per game this season, so Wakulla's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Taylor County, they will head out on the road to square off against Aucilla Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Aucilla Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
