Football Recap: Downey Knights vs. Merced Bears
Downey put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 48-34 win over the Merced Bears. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2023.
A big part of the victory came down to the chemistry between Carson Lamb and his top target Ethan Woodmansee. Lamb threw for 352 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.5% of his passes while Woodmansee picked up 176 receiving yards and four touchdowns. That's the most total yards Woodmansee has posted since back in September of 2023.
Downey's defensive line made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Merced's QB won't forget Noah Sacuskie anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Sacuskie is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.
Downey's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Merced, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Downey will challenge Amador Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Downey knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 point or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Amador Valley likes a good challenge. As for Merced, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Madera at 7:00 p.m. on September 20th.
