Volleyball Recap: Lovett Beats Athens Academy for Their Fourth Straight Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lovett walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Athens Academy Spartans with a sharp 3-0 victory on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Lovett's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ali Wainwright, who had 19 assists and two aces. Wainwright has been hot, having posted 17 or more assists the last seven times she's played. Margaux Godfrey was another key player, getting eight digs and eight assists.

They weren't the only good servers: Lovett was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in six consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why Athens Academy lost, don't look at Riley Muir. Despite the final result, she had 13 digs and two assists.

Lovett's record is now 39-3. As for Athens Academy, they moved to 26-13 with that defeat, which also ended their four-match winning streak.

Looking ahead, Lovett will square off against St. Vincent's at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Athens Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
