Baseball Recap: Fitzgerald Takes a Loss

If Fitzgerald was riding high fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Sterling Heights on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans lost 18-8 to the Cousino Patriots on Saturday.

Fitzgerald got a big performance out of Dylan Bush, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Bush has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 7-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dexter Garda, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Fitzgerald's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Cousino, they moved to 12-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Fitzgerald is taking a road trip to challenge Merritt Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.1 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cousino, they will be playing at home against Clawson at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
