Preview: Bishop Machebeuf Buffaloes vs. Gilpin County Eagles
The Bishop Machebeuf Buffaloes will head out on the road to face off against the Gilpin County Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Bishop Machebeuf struggled with assists on Saturday (Denver Christian had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Bishop Machebeuf had to suffer through a rough 76-39 loss at the hands of Denver Christian. While losing is never fun, Bishop Machebeuf can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Denver Christian is ranked 91st).
Despite the loss, Bishop Machebeuf saw an underclassman step up: Eve Brustkern scored 19 points. That was a full 48.7% of Bishop Machebeuf's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Penelope Mikita was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Gilpin County entered their tilt with North Park with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Gilpin County took down North Park 44-29 on Sunday.
This is the second loss in a row for Bishop Machebeuf and nudges their season record down to 9-7. As for Gilpin County, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Bishop Machebeuf took a serious blow against Gilpin County when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 53-14. Can Bishop Machebeuf avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
