Softball Recap: Ironton Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Ironton won the last time they faced Gallia Academy and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Fighting Tigers came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 6-2.

Ava Bihl made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Ironton got a massive performance out of Aubrey Ferguson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Ferguson has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was Khamil Martin, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Ironton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 15-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Ironton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Gallia Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Coming up, Ironton will face off against Cabell Midland at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fighting Tigers 3.7, the Knights 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Gallia Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Chesapeake at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.15 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
