Softball Recap: Rockbridge County Starts off Right with Win over William Monroe

Rockbridge County had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They won by a run and slipped past the William Monroe Dragons 6-5. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 9-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Sadie Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Willow Rogers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Dorey, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

William Monroe has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rockbridge County will welcome Parry McCluer at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for William Monroe, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Turner Ashby at 6:00 p.m. on the 17th.
