Baseball Recap: Pitman Triumphs

Pitman's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against the Merced Bears by a score of 8-3. The victory continues a trend for the Pride in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won four in a row.

Noah Cervantes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Pitman is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-14 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nathan Cervantes, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jackson Way was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pitman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Pitman's win bumped their record up to 8-15. As for Merced, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-16.

Pitman didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 15-1 victory against Modesto on the 28th. As for Merced, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-2 loss against El Capitan on the 28th.
