Basketball Recap: Hanahan Falls Despite Big Games from Dru Goldsmith and Jackson Wilber

Hanahan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Battery Creek Dolphins. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-38 back in January.

Hanahan's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jackson Wilber, who posted 15 points and eight rebounds, and Dru Goldsmith, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 12 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Wilber a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jackson Behan, who earned five points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Battery Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Micheal Williams, who put up 16 points along with six steals and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty'Juan Simmons, who had 18 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Hanahan's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Battery Creek, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10.

Hanahan will be playing at home against Oceanside Collegiate Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oceanside Collegiate Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Hanahan likes a good challenge. Battery Creek has already played their next matchup, a 64-52 loss against North Charleston on the 5th.
