Softball Recap: Nickerson Panthers vs. Hesston Swathers
Nickerson extended their losing streak to ten on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They came up short against the Hesston Swathers, falling 17-1. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Swathers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Nickerson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mayci Terhune, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Hesston, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Hesston, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Hesston's side, Brenlyn Richmond made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Richmond was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kaylee Harris was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Landree Martin was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hesston beat Nickerson by a score of 22-3 later that day.
