Football Recap: New Waverly Starts Season with Loss on the Road

New Waverly had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a blow against the Teague Lions, falling 39-7. The contest was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but the Bulldogs couldn't quite close it out.

Mario Cuevas was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 72 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. Those 72 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Waverly will venture away from home to square off against Orangefield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Teague, they are headed away from home for the first time to challenge Tolar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
