Baseball Recap: Floyd County Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Floyd County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top against the Radford Bobcats by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday. The Buffaloes have beaten the Bobcats the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bobcats has come to flipping the script.

Floyd County got a great performance from Gavin Swortzel as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Swortzel a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Adam Petty was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Bakely, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Floyd County pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Radford, they now have a losing record of 3-4-1.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Floyd County will square off against rival Alleghany at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Radford is set to take on their familiar foe Carroll County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
