Baseball Recap: Lucy Beckham Continues Road Dominance on Monday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lucy Beckham ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Wando Warriors. This was payback for the Bengals, who suffered a 9-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Hunter Doyle tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Lucy Beckham's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Preston DeNapoli, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Those three hits gave DeNapoli a new career-high. Tommy Byrne was another, earning two runs and one stolen base.

Lucy Beckham's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wando, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 15-9 record.

Lucy Beckham will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Warriors: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
