Volleyball Recap: Elmwood-Murdock Knights vs. Johnson County Central Thunderbirds

Elmwood-Murdock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Johnson County Central Thunderbirds, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Thunderbirds this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-1 defeat two weeks ago.

Elmwood-Murdock was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-23, 25-18.

Annie Backemeyer paced Elmwood-Murdock's offense, picking up 12 kills. Backemeyer got some help from Lucy Backemeyer and her 26 assists. Jalyn Fleischman controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Johnson County Central found their leader in sophomore Sophia Schmid, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Elmwood-Murdock's loss dropped their record down to 18-13. As for Johnson County Central, the win keeps them at an undefeated 31-0.

Elmwood-Murdock does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Johnson County Central, they will square off against Yutan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
