Preview: Berry Cardinal vs. Olympic Trojans
The Berry Cardinal will head out on the road to square off against the Olympic Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Berry will be strutting in after a victory while Olympic will be coming in after a defeat.
Berry had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past West Mecklenburg, posting a 53-24 victory on the road. That 29 points margin sets a new team best for Berry this season.
Zahnia Long was a one-man wrecking crew for Berry as she scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynlee Miller, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Olympic suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Saturday. They were the victim of a rough 54-30 loss at the hands of Butler. While losing is never fun, Olympic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while Butler is ranked 95th).
Despite their defeat, Olympic saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Chai James, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. James is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 12 games she's played.
Berry's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-10. As for Olympic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season.
Berry strolled past Olympic when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 51-35. Does Berry have another victory up their sleeve, or will Olympic turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
