Football Game Preview: Hemphill Hornets vs. San Augustine Wolves + How To Watch

Hemphill is 1-8 against San Augustine since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hornets will challenge the Wolves at 7:30 p.m. Hemphill has given up an average of 44.1 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hemphill is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Garrison on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Hornets took a blow against the Bulldogs, falling 55-10. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1092nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 539th).

Meanwhile, San Augustine entered their tilt with Shelbyville on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They strolled past the Dragons with points to spare, taking the game 21-6.

San Augustine didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of D'Adrian Renfro and Ja'Corryan Lacy. JaDavian Garner was another major factor on D, picking up 2.5 sacks, forcing one fumble, and making 14 total tackles.

Hemphill's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for San Augustine, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Hemphill might still be hurting after the 45-24 loss they got from San Augustine in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Wolves' Tymorian Cartwright, who rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries.
