Basketball Recap: Plateau Valley Beats Nucla for Their 18th Straight Victory

Plateau Valley had already won 17 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.4 points) and they went ahead and made it 18 on Saturday. They came out on top against the Nucla Mustangs by a score of 51-40. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cowboys also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Plateau Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jack Vig, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. Vig is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 54% in the last 13 games he's played. Cash Salazar was another key player, putting up 15 points and eight boards.

Plateau Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nucla only six offensive boards.

Despite the loss, Nucla had strong showings from Slade Gillen, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds, and Brycen Rummel, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 13 boards.

Plateau Valley pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points over those games. As for Nucla, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plateau Valley will challenge Cedaredge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Plateau Valley is facing Cedaredge at the right time seeing as Cedaredge is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Nucla, they will take on Ouray at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Nucla is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.
