Preview: Plainview Bulldogs vs. Monterey Plainsmen
Plainview is 2-8 against Monterey since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Plainview Bulldogs will be staying on the road to face off against the Monterey Plainsmen at 12:00 p.m. on December 29th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, it was close, but Plainview ultimately received the gift of a 46-44 win from a begrudging Bulldogssquad.
Meanwhile, Monterey came tearing into Thursday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 77-10 win over Lake View. Considering Monterey has won nine matchups by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Aaliyah Chavez, who scored 24 points along with nine steals and five assists. The matchup was her 21st in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ambrosia Cole, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Plainview's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Monterey, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
Plainview was dealt a bruising 86-43 defeat at the hands of Monterey when the teams last played back in November. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Chavez, who scored 35 points along with nine rebounds. Now that Plainview knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
