Softball Recap: Houston Comes Up Short

Houston fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Covington on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Madeleine McClure spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lindsey Barnes was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Houston now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Covington, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Houston will welcome Arlington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Covington, they will be playing at home against Gibson County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
