Football Recap: El Monte Piles Up the Points Against Rosemead

El Monte extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 5-2. They claimed a resounding 42-7 win over the Rosemead Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won five games by 34 points or more so far this season.

El Monte was led to victory by Aaron Rivera and Isaiah Standley. Rivera rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, while Standley rushed for 129 yards and three scores on only 14 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Standley a new career-high. El Monte also got help from Noah Munoz, who showed off his sure hands for 106 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: El Monte was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 410 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was El Monte's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Nathan Jimenez, Oscar Perez, and Isaac Salinas-Torres, who each picked up one sack apiece.

As for Rosemead, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly 35 points.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Adrian Marquez, who threw for 185 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 49 yards.

El Monte has already played their next contest, a 35-9 victory against Mountain View on the 9th. As for Rosemead, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 28-14 defeat against South El Monte on the 9th.
