The biggest upset of the week belonged to McClatchy, who defeated 753rd ranked Florin, 56-30. Kijafa Burgie ran for 189 yards during the win.
The Lions' Nate Vasquez rumbled for the longest rushing play in Metropolitan this season in his game against the Panthers last week. Vasquez's team topped Florin as he sprinted for 96 yards on the play and finished with 124 in all.
Caden Voges threw for 140 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 10-20 with 3 interceptions.
Qadeer Atlas was a key player and the best on defense this week as Michael Rosales' team fell to Bob Lee's team. The 5-foot-7 junior recorded 1 fumble.
Junior Valdez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Panthers lost to the Lions. He completed 21 passes for 274 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 6 yards. Valdez's key target this week was Atlas, who caught 5 passes for 135 yards.
Floyd Hillis-Cooper was a force in the backfield as Kennedy bested Johnson.
Voges put up the best numbers through the air as Sacramento beat Valley. Voges' favorite target this week was Damen Wheeler, who caught 4 passes for 56 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Dragons' Voges and Wheeler have proven to be a lethal combination. Voges has thrown for 2,416 yards this season, while Wheeler, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 47 catches for 901 yards. The Cougars' Hillis-Cooper leads the league in rushing yards with 1,427.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Rosemont takes on second place Sacramento. Last week, Rosemont lost to Burbank, while Sacramento topped the Vikings.
Paul Doherty's team's Wheeler is only 99 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the the Wolverine. So far this year, he has garnered 47 catches for 901 yards.
McClatchy moved up to 720 from 802 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Metropolitan. The Lions were able to move up by defeating Florin 56-30.
