Softball Recap: Skyline Comes Up Short

Skyline fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Hillcrest on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 9-8. The Grizzlies have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Maggie Young spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brylee Scott made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 13 games she's played. Calla Jensen was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Skyline's loss dropped their record down to 10-6-1. As for Hillcrest, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-7.

While Skyline had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
