Football Game Preview: Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees vs. Burnet Bulldogs

The Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees will face off against the Burnet Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Stephenville will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

If Stephenville beats Burnet with 49 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Yellow Jackets/Honeybees claimed a resounding 49-0 victory over Brownwood. The Yellow Jackets/Honeybees might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Stephenville's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Jackson Richmond was especially locked on to Brownwood's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Lions' side was Hudson Butchee, who picked up a sack, made nine total tackles, and defended one pass.

Meanwhile, Burnet had to suffer through a 38-7 loss at the hands of Brownwood. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 491st, while the Lions are ranked 224th).

Stephenville's win bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Burnet, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Stephenville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 202.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Burnet struggles in that department as they've been averaging 194.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Stephenville against Burnet in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 51-7 victory. In that matchup, the Yellow Jackets/Honeybees amassed a halftime lead of 24-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
