Softball Recap: Watauga Pioneers vs. East Surry Cardinals
Watauga had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the East Surry Cardinals by a score of 10-5 on Wednesday.
Brenna Yates spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits.
On the hitting side, Chloe Wilson was excellent, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Matheson, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Watauga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Watauga's victory bumped their record up to 4-14. As for East Surry, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Watauga will square off against North Iredell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Surry, they will take on Forbush at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will need to watch out since the Falcons have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
