Basketball Recap: Orchard Park Starts Season with Victory at Home

Orchard Park gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They really took it to the Starpoint Spartans for the full four quarters, racking up an 85-37 win. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Quakers had established a 37-point advantage.

Nina Culum was a one-woman wrecking crew as she dropped a double-double with 18 points and 16 boards. Those 16 rebounds gave her a new career-high. Ella Hernandez was another key player, going 7-for-10 en route to 15 points and four steals.

Orchard Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Orchard Park will square off against Southwestern at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. As for Starpoint, they will venture away from home to face off against Lancaster at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
