Baseball Recap: Nordhoff's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nordhoff). They put the hurt on the Ojai Valley Spuds with a sharp 22-5 win on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Rangers with their most commanding win of the season.

Johnny Perez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Nordhoff: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Perez was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Scotty Luttenberger was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Middough, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Nordhoff always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ojai Valley only posted an OBP of .440.

Nordhoff's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3. As for Ojai Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Nordhoff will square off against Santa Ynez at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ojai Valley, they will challenge Villanova Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
