Softball Recap: Edisto Wins Going Away Against Whale Branch

Edisto's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Whale Branch Warriors. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Brantley Thompson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Edisto got a massive performance out of Kaelyn Proveaux, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Proveaux also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sarayah Hart, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Edisto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whale Branch only posted an OBP of .250.

The win got Edisto back to even at 2-2. As for Whale Branch, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edisto will head out to challenge Bridges Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bridges Prep has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.75 runs per game on average), something Edisto will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Whale Branch, they will take on Lake Marion at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Marion has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something Whale Branch will no doubt try to take advantage of.
