Football Recap: Omaha Westside Starts Season with Win Against Omaha North

Omaha Westside had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They breezed past the Omaha North Vikings to the tune of 58-27 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won four in a row.

Tay Tay Jenkins was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 252 yards while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his tenth straight game with at least 114 rushing yards dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Braylen Warren, who threw for 108 yards and two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Omaha Westside was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 324 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Omaha North only rushed for 147 rushing yards.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 16 points in total. All came from Everest Scherlizin: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 7-for-7 kicking extra points for an additional seven.

Despite the loss, Omaha North still got an impressive performance from Jaron Cannon, who rushed for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Cannon also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making six total tackles and defending one pass. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Darion Jones, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Omaha Westside will welcome Columbus at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Omaha North, they are headed away from home for the first time to challenge Papillion-LaVista South at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
