Preview: Cloverleaf Colts vs. Springfield Spartans
Cloverleaf is 8-2 against Springfield since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Cloverleaf Colts will head out on the road to square off against the Springfield Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Cloverleaf focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
Cloverleaf struggled with offensive rebounds on Saturday (Field had 25 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Cloverleaf fell to Field 49-44.
Despite the defeat, Cloverleaf saw an underclassman step up: Evie Barth scored 22 points along with three steals. Barth is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games she's played. Mackenzie Seiwerth was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Springfield had to suffer through a rough 62-27 loss at the hands of Streetsboro. While losing is never fun, Springfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 548th, while Streetsboro is ranked 135th).
Cloverleaf's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Cloverleaf came up short against Springfield when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 46-36. Can Cloverleaf avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
