Preview: River Ridge Wildcats vs. West Carroll Thunder
River Ridge is 8-2 against West Carroll since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The River Ridge Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the West Carroll Thunder at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully River Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, River Ridge beat Ashton-Franklin Center 60-50.
River Ridge can attribute much of their success to Ethan Walters, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Walters has scored all season. Joe Winter was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to West Carroll, who are still winless after their 15th contest. They were beaten by Galena 99-23 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, West Carroll can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 749th, while Galena is ranked 288th).
River Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for West Carroll, their defeat was their 20th straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-15.
Everything went River Ridge's way against West Carroll in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as River Ridge made off with a 64-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for River Ridge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
