Basketball Game Preview: Tom Bean Tomcats vs. Sam Rayburn Rebels

Tom Bean and Sam Rayburn are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Tom Bean Tomcats will head out to challenge the Sam Rayburn Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of these teams found much success offensively their last time out, scoring well below their season average.

On Friday, Tom Bean opened the new year with a less-than-successful 36-25 defeat to Honey Grove. The Tomcats have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

The losing side was boosted by Taylor Vick, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Sam Rayburn has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 29.67 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit last Friday. They were beaten by Gunter 57-19. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 509th, while the Tigers are ranked 91st).

Sam Rayburn's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Tom Bean, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.

Tom Bean came up short against Sam Rayburn in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 50-44. Can Tom Bean avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
