Volleyball Game Preview: Prout Crusaders vs. La Salle Academy Rams

Prout hasn't had much luck against La Salle Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Crusaders will face off against the Rams at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Prout barely beat East Greenwich the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Crusaders blew past the Avengers 3-0 on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Crusaders as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

The final score came out to 25-11, 25-11, 25-19.

Brooke Rutherford was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 14 assists and six aces. That's the most assists she has posted over her last eight matches. Evelyn McGuire also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Meanwhile, La Salle Academy faced Prout in a battle between two of the state's top teams back in September. The Rams came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 3-1. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

La Salle Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-22.

Prout's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for La Salle Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Prout couldn't quite get it done against La Salle Academy when the teams last played back in September as they fell 3-1. Can the Crusaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
